Pirates Season Goes Down With Bonds's Injury!

Well if Pirates fans were on the fence going into the week on wether or not the Pirates had a chance to make it back to the post season,  their answers where answered when Barry Bonds went down with an elbow injury.  It happened while he was trying to make an outstanding defensive play.  He is expected to be out for 5-6 weeks.  Barry is currently batting .307 with 19 home runs, 76 RBIs and 65 runs scored.

06-28-1989

We have played very well lately we just have not been able to catch up in the standings. We have won 3 of our last 4 series going but we only had a record of 7-5 during that same time span. There is alot of season left so no one is panicking at this point but we have got to start winning more than just series.

The trading deadline is moving closer and closer so we are going to really need to start making some decisions on if we are going to be buyers or sellers. If we end up being buyers than we are going to have to go find a couple of arms for both the rotation and the pen. If we end up being sellers at the deadline than you might see names like LaValliere, Easley, Bonilla and Cangelosi end up in different uniforms.

1989 Sim #9 May 29th-June 4th

We had a good sim going 4-2. We started the sim against a very good Reds team and took the series by winning games 1 and 2. They ended up winning the last game 9-5 to avoid the sweep. Next up for us was the Mets. Big series for us and we stepped up and won it. After losing the first game we took the next two. We are very happy at our play this week and hope we can continue this into next week.

Studs of the Sim: Lind, Reynolds, Fermin, Bonds.
All of these guys hit over .300 to help us get the runs we need to win.

Dud of the Sim: Logan Easley
Logan had 2 bad outings this week giving up 5 ER in 2.1 innings. He ended the week with a 19.29 era

Looking forward:
*Record in ( ) is season series record.

Big week for us seeing that both teams we go up against are in our division. Being in a division where only 5 1/2 games separates the top and bottom it is imperative that we win the series against division opponents. First we travel to Philly for a 4 game series. This could not be a better opportunity for us to gain ground in our division. Second up is the Mets. We just got done playing them and won the series so we are hoping the same thing happens.

Player(s) to watch: Logan Easley.
He has to start pitching better out of the pen. We have Jeff Gray in AAA Vancouver just waiting for a call up. You will see him in the bigs next week if Easley has another bad sim.

1989 Sim #8

We split this sim going 3-3. We lost our first series to the Braves. That puts at 1-5 vs them this year. They took the first and third game from us. We used two big innings in the second game to get the win. For the second series we hosted Houston and took 2 of 3 from them. That gets us ahead in the season series 4-2. All of the games in the series were decided by 2 runs or less. Jeff Brantley was big for us recording save 11 and 12 of the season.

Stud of the Sim: Bobby Bonilla-3B

This is Bobby's first SOS sim award this year! Bobby had a great sim hitting .450 with 1HR, 9 RBI, 2 2B, 5 BB, 1SB, .700 SLG, and 1.260 OPS. We need some more sims like this out of him if we plan on gaining ground in the division.

Dud of the Sim: R.J. Reynolds-RF
R.J. just could not get the bat on the ball this sim hitting only .136 avg. He had more strikeouts (5) than hits (2). This was mainly a disappointment due to the fact he had a great sim last week recording a hit in every game, including 3, 2 hit games.

Looking forward:
*Record in ( ) is season series record.

We will first host the division leading Reds (1-2) who are 27-21 on the season. Both teams have #4, #5, #1 Starters going for them. So the series will most likely come down to who does not make mistakes and can score key runs. The Next series will be in New York vs the Mets (1-1) who we are tied with in the division. For obvious reasons this is an important 3 game series for us. We would love to get sweep but really need a series win.

Player to watch:
Bobby and Barry. We need both players to have big sims for us.
